Sally Ride, the first American woman to travel into space, died Monday at the age of 61 from pancreatic cancer. Ride's death on Monday has brought attention to another aspect of her personal life that until now had not been made public: that she had a long-time relationship with female partner Tam O'Shaughnessy.
Dr. Tam O'Shaughnessy was Sally Ride's partner of 27 years. While many recognize the name of the late astronaut who died on Monday from pancreatic cancer, Ride's lesbian partner, O'Shaughnessy is also an accomplished woman who often co-worked with Ride.
