Paramount's "The Devil Inside" took in an astonishing $16.9 million during its first day in Theaters in the United States, becoming one of the top 5 horror movies with the biggest opening days.

"The Devil Inside" is about a woman who gets involved in exorcisms as she tries to find out if her mother, who was recluted in a mental hospital for murdering three people, is insane or demon possesed. The audience has rated it with an awful "F" according to CinemaScore 

Despite its unexpected success, "The Devil Inside" did not break the all time opening day record for a horror movie. Paranormal Activity 3 still holds the record for the biggest opening day with $26.3 million. The Village is No. 2 with $20.3 million on its opening day, Paranormal Acitivy 2 ranks No. 3 with $20.1 million and Friday the 13th, ranks No. 4 with $19.2 million, according to figures from BoxOfficemojo.com.
