The Vampire Diaries is shifting its dynamic now that it is Elena-less (Nina Dobrev).

Get To Know Male Heretics Coming To Mystic Falls For Season 7 Of 'The Vampire Diaries'

During San Diego Comic-Con, one of the show's executive producers dished some juicy details on what's coming up for the supernatural CW hit series.

BuddyTV chatted with Julie Plec all about what will come of the remaining characters from season 6 and the new characters in Mystic Falls.

Will Lily Come Between Damon & Stefan During 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7?

"Everyone's kind of having a shared journey about dealing with the fact of what defines who their family is," Plec dished, adding, "Damon [Ian Somerhalder] and Stefan [Paul Wesley] are dealing with the fact that their mother, who essentially abandoned them, has now shown up in this town and their hometown with this group of people that she calls her family and she calls her children."

There is going to be a lot of tension between the Salvatore brothers and Lily's (Annie Wersching) other family, the heretics.

"It's emotionally, incredibly frustrating and disappointing," Plec revealed of what Damon and Stefan will experience throughout season 7.

She also dished that this tension-filled situation will unveil a lot of knowledge about their relationship as siblings as well as the relationship they wanted with their mother.

The Salvatore family drama aside, Alaric (Matt Davis) is going through a lot in the upcoming season as he doesn't exactly mourn the loss of Jo (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe).

"Alaric is not great. Alaric is really, really, really just taking the brunt of a lot of the bad things that have happened," Plec revealed, adding, "He's not great in that way that he's making some clearly questionable decisions. He's dabbling in the occult in ways that maybe he shouldn't be."

According to Plec, Bonnie (Kat Graham) will take pity on him and try to get in touch with his deceased lover and their unborn child.

The series returns to The CW in the fall for season 7.
