Is Piper (Taylor Schilling) tempting fate by continuing her panty business through season 4 of Netflix's Orange Is the New Black?

Piper turned herself into a bit of a crime boss in season 3 of Orange Is the New Black, as she created her own used panty business. Her enterprise was booming through the season 3 finale, until she found out that Stella (Ruby Rose) had drained her bank account. Piper then turned that on Stella by hiding contraband all over her bunk, which sent Stella to maximum security.

This is a far cry from the Piper we were introduced to in the first season. Schilling recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about Piper's business and whether the character is now finding her authentic self.

Will Soso Finally Get Some Friends In 'Orange Is the New Black' Season 4?

"She may only have three months left," Schilling noted. "It's a pretty wild thing that this character is risking a significantly extended sentence to play with this panty business."

Speaking on Piper's motivation, Schilling explained:

"What if she's moving toward a place where she's finally, for the first time in her life saying, 'I'm going to bring it and I'm going to be who I am,' and she's been trapped by blonde hair and blue eyes for so much of her life? Maybe it is redemption to go too far."

Perhaps Alex (Laura Prepon) telling Piper she is going all Walter White (chemistry teacher turned meth king in Breaking Bad) isn't too far off.

Orange Is the New Black is available to stream on Netflix.
