Now the ABC medical drama gets to try new things basically. So much of Grey's Anatomy always focused on Derek and Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), but now the series can really shake things up.

It appears to going in that direction as insight into the upcoming season has begun to surface about other characters such as Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) and others.

On Tuesday Deadline reported that during the Television Critics Association's semi-annual press tour, Paul Lee, the president of ABC, revealed the series "reinvents itself" in the upcoming twelfth season.

Lee discussed the decision to kill of "McDreamy" too.

"It was great, wasn't it? It was great to see Grey's being so relevant and taking the national conversation in its eleventh season," he shared, noting, the decision wasn't easy to come by. He actually deemed it as "difficult."

Lee dished that showrunner Shonda Rhimes is "remarkable" and he believes the medical drama will continue to reign on the network.

"There is no reason to expect that the show won't go on for many, many years to come," he stated.

Grey's Anatomy will premiere its twelfth season on Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET.
