It's going to be an emotional goodbye when Downton Abbey leaves television.

'Downton Abbey' Season 6 Gets Official Premiere Date

On Monday, UPI posted details from the cast and crew members who dished on what it was like filming the last episodes for the sixth and final season. Executive producer Gareth Neame said that he doesn't plan for a miserable ending on the British drama, but unfortunately, not everyone will walk away smiling.

"There's a lot to get done in these final nine episodes," Neame said. "This is ultimately a happy show that people love so I don't think we're going to end with lightning striking the house and the house is exploded or something. But not everyone will have a happy ending."

As fans await what this could mean, two of the show's leading actresses opened up on how emotional it felt having to leave the location that's been used for the series.

"It's strange saying goodbye to the castle," Laura Carmichael (Edith) said. "It felt like, for a split second, it wasn't our home anymore- and, of course, it never was our home, but it felt like it."

"As soon as they said 'cut' on that day, you realized it was just pretend," she added. "It was very emotional."

Michelle Dockery (Mary) chimed in, "Laura and I wandered around for the last time...we didn't want to leave. We went and sat on [character] Matthew [Crawley's] bench."

Downton Abbey Season 6 premieres in the United States on Sunday, January 3 on PBS.
