While Bill Murray has yet to accept an offer to reprise his role for the new "Ghostbusters 3" movie, it doesn't insinuate in the least bit that the project will be halted.

Dan Aykroyd, who has been Murray's costar, recently informed Esquire that he himself is super close to once again donning the part of Dr. Ray Stantz for the supernatural franchise with or without the man that plays Dr. Peter Venkman.

"He abrogated his rights but sort of, by saying, two years ago he said, 'I don't want to be involved.'  And the picture company I think had some clause in there that if he actually passed on the third or fourth offer, he no longer has a view of the franchise," he stated.

Aykroyd, who claimed credit for being the "Ghostbusters 3" cheerleader, also said that the storyline will still revolve around the older Ghostbusters passing down their proton packs to a younger generation. However, with or without the original core intact, most of them remain good friends.

"We can't wait forever.  And now's the time to tell the picture company, and I'd say this quite publicly, it's time now to sit down and make this movie or you will lose your main principles, and you won't be able to make it without us, because we have rights, and now is time to make the movie," Aykroyd added.

Nonetheless, Aykroyd did insinuate that there's no ill-will toward Murray, saying that he'd always have a spot on the flick if he just so happens to change his mind.

"We'll always leave a hole for him. He's always there.  He can always come back at any time and be rebuilt into it, as far as I'm concerned.  That's up to his lawyer and the picture company but creatively, he will always be a part of it."
