While Rick Castle's (Nathan Fillion) mother on ABC's Castle has a successful Broadway career, that doesn't mean she's gone from his life.

'Castle's Next Season Will Feature A 'Firefly' Reunion

Martha Rodgers (Susan Sullivan) still has time for her son Rick, even despite her busy career. New Castle co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter spoke about this in a new TVLine report.

"She's very much a part of Castle's life," Winter said. "Don't think that just because she now has her own place and is doing well on Broadway that we're not going to see her sharing her wisdom with her favorite and only son."

Why Is Rick Going Back To Work As A Private Investigator On 'Castle' Next Season?

As for Castle's father, Jackson Hunt (James Brolin), the TVLine report says that he is at least mentioned at one point in the season 8 premiere.

Meanwhile, Castle's wife Beckett (Stana Katic) is busy with her own career. She will ascend to the position of captain in season 8, replacing Gates (Penny Johnson Jerald). But Beckett will be a different kind of captain than Gates or Montgomery (Ruben Santiago-Hudson) before her.

"She's not going to be a captain like Montgomery or Gates," Winter told TVGuide.com. "She's still going to be very boots-on-the-ground, but now she has to work with Esposito and Ryan much differently than in the past, and that's going to cause more conflict. And it's much different when your wife is the captain, the boss, versus when your wife is the detective."

Castle season 8 premieres Monday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
