The controversial finale scene which was supposed to represent some form of closure between Alicia (Julianna Margulies) and Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) in season 7 of The Good Wife, had critics and fans demanding answers from the creators and cast of the CBS legal drama.

Will Peter Run For President In Season 7?

After a long silence, we are finally getting some apologies from the CBS camp. Showrunner Robert and Michelle King addressed their reasons for doctoring the scene in an interview with Deadline.

"We are certainly never ever hoping to hurt the fans' feelings or make them feel like that trust has been broken," said Michelle King. "But we're making the show every day using tricks, like if you're in a car and there's green screen and it looks like Chicago out the window but that's not exactly where we are."

Showrunners Dish About Kalinda's Replacement In Season 7

Robert King went on to suggest that the way Kalinda left should be the least of fans' worries and this was just becoming something of a norm on the series.

"If there was any point where the fans maybe should've felt duped, it was when Josh Charles left the show. We kept something from the fans for a long time, because we knew a year earlier that we were going to be killing Will... And I think if the audience feels duped about the way Kalinda left, they should see how next season goes for them."

At a Television Critics Association event on Aug. 10, CBS Chairman Nina Tassler talked about the scene which used CGI to splice Alicia and Kalinda into one frame. The two actresses weren't physically present to enact the scene with each other in the same room. A lot of critics thought it was very unprofessional of the actresses, to not be able to work together for a very crucial scene in the series. There had also been rumors of a long-running feud between Alicia and Kalinda which might have been why they had to resort to such tactics. US Weekly reported from the TCA event and got Tassler's comments.

Tassler dismissed all the criticism and relented full support the showrunners' decision regarding the execution of the scene.

"I'm not gonna reveal movie magic," she said. "Bottom line is, the ending of the show was a very satisfying ending for the relationship between those two characters. I stand behind how Robert and Michelle King produced their show."

In May this year, E!Online posed the same question to Panjabi. Panjabi was very professional in her response to the pop culture website and didn't abet the rumors about her rift with Margulies. "All I can say is this: the decision-making process is not something I'm privy to," she said.

None of these responses have been satisfactory enough but for all the other brilliance of The Good Wife, this should be water under the bridge now.

The finale, entitled 'Wanna Partner?' aired on CBS on May 10.
