Being a fan of One Direction this year has been seriously rough between Zayn Malik leaving the boy band in March and all the constantly swirling rumors that the remaining members will call it quits soon.

One Direction's Liam Payne Fights Back Against Those Claiming He's Homophobic

Back in March amid Malik's departure Liam Payne tweeted, "thanks for not thinking it's finished," while praising fans for their continued support regardless of the band being down a member.

Since then he and his remaining bandmates, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, have been continuing their On The Road Again Tour, writing and recording for their fifth studio album and they actually just released the music video for their first single sans Malik.

Can Random People On The Streets Identify Members Of One Direction?

"Drag Me Down" is doing quite well for the boy band despite Malik's absence.

Anyway, The Sun revealed a new report that the boy band is heading toward an extended break come March 2016, which means no touring in support of their fifth album, which is due to release this November or December. This report spurred rumors that the band will disband for good and it has certainly ruffled Directioners quite a bit.

About a month ago Simon Cowell revealed to The Sun that the lads would be taking a break since "they've got enough hits now [that] they can take some time off and do some other stuff they want to do." He did reveal it is ultimately up to them if they would get back together after said break, but it seems that they would considering Payne's response to fans' support right after Malik left.

Plus, Billboard reported that the band's publicist Simon Jones won't comment on "speculation" so perhaps the rumor that they won't ever get back together is just that, a rumor.

Regardless, this news has caused quite the frenzy, resulting in some interesting and hilarious tweets. We've rounded up some of the most interesting ones below for your enjoyment.

This One Direction split news is apparently dragging down China's economy. Excuse the pun, but we had to go there.

Another fan revealed that if anyone mentions "break up" and "One Direction" in the same sentence to them, they "will punch you in the face."

A different Directioner went even more frantic insisting if the British-Irish boy band comes to an end she will die.

Apparently if this split rumor winds up being true other fans like the one below dished they will never be able to listen to the boy band's music ever again since they'll wind "up crying a f------ river."

Other fans believe this news is utter bullcrap.

While some of these reactions are a bit much you really cannot get between the love a person has for their favorite musical act.

Split or not, enjoy One Direction while they're still around and if they do go on a break or definitely split up there is always a chance they'll reunite. Just look at other boy bands from previous years that have changed lineups, taken hiatuses and such over the years.
