The NCIS season 13 premiere is inching closer with more and more details being revealed.

'NCIS' Writers Have 'Most Cohesive' Plan With Season 13

In case you have been living under a rock, Gibbs (Mark Harmon) will live despite suffering from pretty bad gunshot wounds that a young kid inflicted since a terrorist group called The Calling recruited him.

Jon Cryer is portraying the doctor (Dr. Taft) that will work tirelessly to make sure Gibbs survives. Cryer's character will be talking to Gibbs throughout the sugery since that is the kind of doctor he is.

Abby Will Have To 'Use Her Wits' In The New Season Of 'NCIS,' But Why?

TVLine reported Tuesday that a good chunk of the premiere episode would revolve around Gibbs' surgery.

The episode will literally begin where the season 12 finale ended.

Gibbs will be "rushed into surgery on an aircraft carrier, where we hook him up with the surgeon on the ship played by Jon Cryer," according to the showrunner Gary Glasberg.

It will not be an easy, breezy ride for Gibbs as he is operated on. It is going to be traumatic watching a fan favorite character go through such an experience as viewers. It was bad enough watching him get shot last season!

"He goes through a really traumatic experience, that kind that changes someone," Glasberg said, adding, "Really, the whole first half of the [premiere] is this emotional roller coaster ride of Gibbs' surgery."

NCIS returns to CBS on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET.
