One Direction has been in the news a lot as of lately for various reasons between Zayn Malik leaving the boy band in March, rumors swirling that this is the end since they're no longer a five-piece, and more.

The rumors about the end being near really kicked into high-gear when a report from The Sun about the remaining members of One Direction going on an extended break got twisted into them splitting up forever.

Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne were quick to debunk the rumors on Twitter though, which seemed to put fans at ease, but on Thursday Sugarscape reported that Simon Cowell actually isn't sure if 1D will regroup after the break.

"This hasn't been a secret for a long time. We've been discussing them taking a year off," Cowell stated, adding, "It always feels like the end; I don't know if this is gonna be the end or not, but like I've always done or tried to do with their career is to say 'your decision.'"

Well, it seems like the band is still set on being a band at least for now, but that could always change, but Cowell hopes they do stay together.

He was asked about what he hopes their future in about three years will be like and he revealed: "Hopefully doing solo stuff, but also staying in the group. That would be my wish, but whatever they do you have to respect them. They've worked hard for this, they deserve a break; they're gonna have a good time."

So ground is still kind of shaky with the status of One Direction in a sense, but even if they were to take longer than a year off that's okay. They have worked nonstop since 2010 and have certainly earned time off. Plus, so many other acts take breaks and return years later and considering they have such dedicated fans if they were to go away for quite a while, they should still be able to return with just as much support as when they left.
