The question will be answered in the season 5 premiere, according to a new TVLine report.

Merida May Become An Honorary Knight Of The Round Table On 'Once Upon a Time'

Once Upon a Time co-creator Edward Kitsis told the publication that Emma "did not travel time, but she did travel realms. And why Rumple's there will be immediately explained within the first act of the premiere."

However, it is Regina (Lana Parrilla), Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin), Charming (Josh Dallas), Hook (Colin O'Donoghue), Henry (Jared Gilmore) and Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) that will open the season premiere. They witnessed Emma disappear into darkness with their own eyes, and now they are left wondering what to do and how to get her back.

Regina blurts out, "How could she be so stupid?" while Hook does his best to try and bring her back through the dagger. "Dark One, with this dagger I command thee. Return!" he pleads, to no avail. Watch the scene below.

Once Upon a Time season 5 premieres Sunday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
