At this rate it is no surprise that Gibbs (Mark Harmon) will undergo a lot of change in the upcoming season of NCIS considering how things left off with the finale from the previous season.

His life is on the line, but he will be saved; however, it will all take a big toll on the man who rarely buckles.

Gibbs will not be in charge as he is being operated on, but soon after he will take charge again, yet there will be noticeable changes. In the meantime, Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) will be running things with the NCIS team.

TVLine reported Monday that the showrunner for the series is quite pleased with Harmon's acting as Gibbs goes through all of these changes.

"We're going to see some changes in Gibbs that are going to throw people a bit," showrunner Gary Glasberg revealed, adding, "[Mark] Harmon is doing some fantastic work right now in just subtle nuances."

"So, physically, you're going to see changes. Emotionally, you're going to see changes," Glasberg shared, which is reasonable considering it has been repeatedly stated that what Gibbs is going through is "traumatic".

"At the end of the day, things that you wouldn't normally associate with Leroy Jethro Gibbs are going to happen," Glasberg concluded.

We're definitely intrigued to see where Gibbs goes and what he'll do that's out of character for him.

NCIS returns to CBS on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET.
