Is American Horror Story's grand dame headed back to the show soon?

Did 'American Horror Story' Boss Ryan Murphy Just Hint At Multiple Seasons For 2016?

Jessica Lange left American Horror Story after four seasons, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable characters. We are now heading into our first Lange-less season this fall for Hotel, but fans should fret not.

American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly where he gave hope that Lange will return for a future season.

"I've been talking to her. It's always possible. I'm trying to deal with her play schedule," Murphy said, referring to Lange and Murphy's upcoming Broadway revival of Long Day's Journey Into Night. "Jessica is always about the character. She'll be back-she's not gone forever. But that's the fun and fresh thing about the show: sometimes somebody has to go away before you realize how much you miss them. She wants to come back, we just have to come up with something."

Lange first appeared as nosy neighbor Constance Langdon in season 1, which was her only supporting performance. The next three seasons would find Lange being the lead, as she was head nun Sister Jude in Asylum, Supreme witch Fiona Goode in Coven and freak show owner Elsa Mars in Freak Show.

The actress won an Emmy in 2012 and 2014 for playing Constance and Fiona, respectively. She is now nominated for playing Elsa this year, with the Emmy Award ceremony taking place Sunday, Sept. 20.

American Horror Story: Hotel premieres Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
