'So much for her happy ending'...news broke today that Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger are calling it quits.

It was announced on Lavigne's Instagram page on Wednesday that she and her Nickleback star husband are ending their marriage after two years.

New details on the split emerged on E! News where it was revealed how the "Complicated" singer's been handling this.

"Honestly, she's doing okay," a source told the site. "This has been in the works for a while."

The insider gave the impression that there won't be any bad blood for the couple. While Lavigne's battle with Lyme disease created a damper in her life, there were other things that just didn't work out for them.

"Chad is being supportive," the source said. "At the end of the day, they just didn't see eye to eye on a lot of things...their friends and their circles never really mixed."

"They originally got together to make an album and that's where the spark between them originated. But it just slowly died out."

Lavigne revealed that she and Kroeger were separating in an Instagram post. With a photo of the day they got married, the singer thanked everyone for their support.

This was Kroeger's first marriage and Lavigne's second. She was previously married to Deryck Whibley for four years.
