From the blistering heat of the Scorch to the chill of The Death Cure, the Maze Runner series is racing forward.

'Teen Wolf' Season 5: Malia A Major Part Of The Midseason Premiere, Episode 14 To Center Around Desert Wolf?

The Scorch Trials, the second installment in the James Dashner book-to-screen adaptation, will hit theaters on Sept. 18, but director Wes Ball is already looking to the future. It's officially time for fans to start thinking about the third and final film, The Death Cure.

"This next one will be cool because we're gonna cut maybe a year later," Ball recently informed Collider.

Life will not grind to a halt for Tom (Dylan O'Brien) and Co., however. Their time jump will be chock full of new problems, something Ball hopes will make the last installment even more exciting than it's predecessors.

"Some things have happened off screen, which is gonna make the movie feel even bigger," Ball teased.

One thing is for sure, however - as production moves from the deserts of New Mexico to the snowy climes of Vancouver, The Death Cure will present both teens and viewers with an entirely new world.

"It's gonna be a very different movie," Ball explained. "We're not gonna be in the same kind of setting anymore. We're gonna go a little bit more future, do something a little gritty, a little film noir almost."

20th Century Fox has yet to announce a release date for The Death Cure.
