Funerals for victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting are already underway and President Obama attended a service on Sunday for the 20 children and six adults slayed in the attack.

A funeral for two of the victims were held on Monday: for 6-year-old Noah Pozner at 1 p.m. at the Abraham L. Green & Son Funeral Home in Fairfield, Conn., and for Jack Pinto, also 6, at Honan Funeral Home in Newtown. Pinto was an avid New York Giants fan and the team paid tribute to him in their Sunday game.

Families from as far as Puerto Rico began to plan funerals for victims and vigils were held around the U.S, according to Fox News. On Sunday, Obama attended an interfaith memorial service Sunday in Newtown, reportedly the fourth time he traveled to a city after the shooting. He canceled a scheduled trip to Maine Wednesday for an event promoting his stance in "fiscal cliff" negotiations in light of the Dec. 14 tragedy.

All Newton public schools remain closed as of Dec. 17 and counseling services are being held at Edmond Town Hall for community members.

Adam Lanza, 20, killed his mother Nancy at home before making his way to the elementary school Friday, breaking into the building and shooting teachers, students and others. He reportedly killed himself and authorities found his body in one of the school's classrooms. His father, Peter Lanza, who was divorced from Nancy, released the following statement on Saturday:

"Our hearts go out to the families and friends who lost loved ones and to all those who were injured. Our family is grieving along with all those who have been affected by this enormous tragedy. No words can truly express how heartbroken we are. We are in a state of disbelief and trying to find whatever answers we can.

"We too are asking why. We have cooperated fully with law enforcement and will continue to do so. Like so many of you, we are saddened, but struggling to make sense of what has transpired."
