Derek Hough Talks Why He Already 'Loves' New 'DWTS' Partner Bindi Irwin

There are many contenders here who could take home the trophy, which should make for a fun season. Going by DWTS history, the winner tends to be a relatively young, good-natured, technically proficient dancer. Recent examples include Rumer Willis, Meryl Davis and Amber Riley.

This type of track record benefits stars like Irwin, Carter and the PenaVegas.

Athletes also tend to do very well, with previous winners including Donald Driver, Hines Ward, Shawn Johnson, Kristi Yamaguchi and Emmitt Smith. The only athlete in this bunch is Espinoza, so he could do very well this season.

Older celebrities go either way on Dancing With the Stars depending on whether the audience is charmed by them. They are usually not the most proficient dancers but their spirit makes people want to keep watching and voting for them. This is where stars like Busey, Deen and Khan may benefit.

It is difficult to tell who will excel and who will flame out until we see the celebs on premiere night, but it's always fun to guess which celeb will rise to the top and claim the Mirrorball trophy. Take our poll below to cast your vote.

Dancing With the Stars season 21 premieres Monday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
