It remains unknown exactly what caused Adam Lanza to go on the killing spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT on Friday.

New details that Adam's mother Nancy was planning on having him committed may lead to more answers as to a possible motive for the crime.

The elementary school teacher was allegedly looking into putting her son Adam in a psychiatric facility, according to acquaintances of the family.

Joshua Flashman, a 25-year-old resident of Newtown who grew up near the school, said that Lanza knew about his mother's wishes to have him committed and this troubled her son.

"From what I've been told, Adam was aware of her petitioning the court for conservatorship and (her) plans to have him committed," Flashman said, as reported by Fox News. "Adam was apparently very upset about this. He thought she just wanted to send him away. From what I understand, he was really, really angry. I think this could have been it, what set him off."

It's unknown if Nancy had filed paperwork to get her adult son committed to a hospital or psych ward against his will as any records would be sealed.

The 20-year-old gunman was also apparently jealous of the time his mother spent at the school and the attention he got from her. Adam allegedly felt that Nancy loved Sandy Hook Elementary School and the students more than she did for him.

Police are looking into all aspects of the incident to try and figure out what caused Adam's shooting spree.

The massacre at the Newtown elementary school resulted in the deaths of 20 children and six adult staff members.

Funerals continued for the third day in a row on Wednesday for the victims of the shooting, according to The Associated Press.
