One of the longest running shows to air on television still has a great future ahead.

'Degrassi' Stars Reveal Something They Were Looking Forward To On Series

On Tuesday, The Observer posted an interview with Degrassi executive producer Matt Huether as he attended this year's Emmy Awards. It was revealed that the 500th episode of the series was recently shot "and that's very rarefied air," according to Huether.

The series is also getting an update by moving to Netflix in 2016.

"We're just really excited about where it's headed," Huether said.

While no specifics were given on what might happen as far as storyline, the producer made it clear that the show will continue to delve into real-life issues that teenagers sometimes face as they grow up.

"I think as long as we're authentic and do our best to be honest, we just give a place for teenagers to come and watch stories that feel like they're about their lives," he said.

The show has taken on a number of challenging and controversial issues, involving relationships, family and self-identity. There were also plenty of frightening moments, involving abuse, gun violence, sexual assault and death.

Degrassi was nominated for Outstanding Children's program at the Emmy Awards. The award ended up going to an HBO documentary, but Huether was grateful, nonetheless.

"It was tough, but it was so fun to be there," he said.

"It's kind of magical, and all of your TV heroes are there, which is kind of cool," he added.
