Joseph Gordon-Levitt spoke to the Guardian about his experience meeting with Edward Snowden as part of his research for the movie.

The actor had good things to say about Snowden revealing that he was in "good spirits" and was "warm, kind, and thoughtful."

Gordon-Levitt also made known that Snowden really wanted to come back home to America and didn't want to live in Russia at all.

"Certainly there was that note, that he very much would like to come home," he said. "He doesn't want to live in Russia at all."

The actor is completely behind Snowden's decision to do what he did, and the NSA leaker has his support.

"I left knowing without a doubt that what [Snowden] did, he did because he believed it was the right thing to do, that he believed it would help the country he loves," Gordon-Levitt said.

He added that at the end of the day it was for the public to decide for itself if they are for or against what Snowden did but Gordon-Levitt strongly hinted at which side he was on.

"Now, as he would say, it's not for him to say whether it was right or wrong. That's really for people to decide on their own, and I would encourage anybody to decide that on their own," he said. "I don't want to be the actor guy who's like, 'You should listen to me! What he did was right!' I don't think that's my place. Even though that is what I believe - that what he did was right."

Gordon-Levitt recently wrapped filming for The Walk, a Robert Zemeckis film based on the true story which was made into a documentary, Man on Wire about Philippe Petit's high-wire walk between the Twin Towers in New York on August 7, 1974. Gordon-Levitt plays the part of Petit, and is busy promoting it now. The actor has also been filming for a Christmas-eve themed movie which is being directed by Jonathan Levine.

The Walk will release on Sept. 30.
