Alain Paradis has been an active musician since around 2010, but for his most recent project, the Brooklyn-based electro-pop maestro adopted the moniker Order Of Operations. With the self-described style of "pangs of heartache on the dancefloor," Paradis released an EP, constrvctive delusions, last December and has been busy ever since performing and sharing new tracks on SoundCloud.

The sound of Order Of Operations reflects mainstream music with a trance-like quality, filled with innovative progressions, a new wave feel and (as it turns out) a backstory of real emotions. According to Paradis, constrvctive delusions came about due to a long-distance love in 2014. "The initial songs were written as a Valentine's Day gift for a girlfriend who was staying in Italy," he explained.

Enstars recently chatted with Order Of Operations about his music, the meaning of his band name, his inspiration and what that girlfriend in Italy thought when she heard her Valentine's Day gift.

Enstars: Can you talk about why you named the EP constrvctive delusions?
Order Of Operations: I came across the term while reading articles on psychology. It was talking about positive delusions that can sometimes help being more successful, and I thought it apt for my debut foray into a solo music career.

You mentioned the initial songs within the EP were created as a Valentine's Day gift for a girlfriend who was living in Italy at the time so how did things pan out with the songs being a gift?
OOO: It didn't get quite as much of a reaction as I had hoped. I think she only had an iPad with poor Internet service where she was in Italy, so it was hard to actually listen to them. But they've been the seed that I've revolved this project around, so it's been worth it in that sense.

Do you have a particularly favorite track?
OOO: Hard to say, [but] it would probably be "Pheromones And Molecules," which I'm promoting as the single. But I do really love the chorus on "Another One Down".

Can you share your favorite lyrics from each track and why you like them?
OOO: "
Pheromones And Molecules" would be "I'm still sleeping on visions of you lying here." I was actually imagining a surreal scene of sleeping on a bed made of visions.

[From] "Never Gonna Be" [I'd say] "Or do I just cut my losses, say 'c'est la vie' and move on to another day searching for someone new." The repetition of "say 'c'est la vie'" is fun to sing.

"Fault Lines" [has to be the line] "You'll fall asleep in my arms, on a train to southern France. And when the Mediterranean sprawls, glittering before us..." Just a scene I always like picturing.

[My favorite lyric from] "Another One Down" [is definitely] "Somewhere where we walked the same path, and I turned right and you turned left." A lyric about trying to understand people that don't necessary hold the same values and philosophical beliefs as you, but may have started just as well intentioned.

"When I Say Run" [has the following line] "Run, don't look behind you, at all the eyes behind Venetian masks." [It] reminded me of being in Venice during Carnival.

Switching gears slightly, where does your inspiration come from for writing songs?
OOO: A divine spirit, perhaps? It's fairly unpredictable. Sometimes it's an outpouring over some emotional turmoil in my life. Other times it's a concept I thought would be interesting and I toil over creating a fictional narrative. Sometimes it just stems from the feeling of the music, and I'll have a melody and rhythm in my head that I then have to find words to fit to, but probably some kind of divine spirit. I don't know, I'm not religious.

Do you have any performances coming up you'd like to share?
OOO: I do! I'm performing during an all-day showcase at Silent Barn in Bushwick, Brooklyn on October 18th. I play at 3 p.m. and I'm very excited about the line-up.
