Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton craves sweet foods during the early months of her pregnancy and is reportedly eating boxfuls of lavender shortbread, which also helps the morning sickness she is experiencing.

Middleton, 30, has been experiencing acute morning sickness, a condition that caused her to be admitted in the hospital for a few weeks in December. However, she now craves the very shortbread that is said to be a traditional anti-sickness remedy.

"A lot of women develop cravings during pregnancy and Kate is no exception. She has got a real taste for these biscuits," a source told Showbiz Spy. "Lavender is said to have healing properties, so it is not such a wacky food to nibble on when you're pregnant."

The royal family have been sending her boxes of the snacks, which are sold by her father-in-law Prince Charles' Duchy Originals organic food brand, according to the report.

A different source previously noted that Prince William's wife has been craving other sweet foods as well.

"Kate has been craving scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream," said a source. "She can't get enough of it. And she washes it down with a cup of old-fashioned English-breakfast tea.

"Some women eat raw onions when they're pregnant, but Kate's joked that she's keeping it classy. It's just a shame she can't keep her food down for long!"

St. James' Palace announced news of Middleton's pregnancy on Dec. 3. That same day, she was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London for suffering hyperemesis gravidarum, which is commonly known as morning sickness.

The new baby, whether boy or girl, could be monarch one day since he or she is the first-born to Prince William, who is second to the throne after his father Prince Charles. The child will be next in line behind Prince William in the line of succession.
