ABC's Castle is going on a break... at least for the winter.

Did 'Castle' Just Jump The Shark?

Castle is airing eight episodes of its current eighth season this fall before going on a winter hiatus. Considering two of those eight episodes have already aired, Castle fans will have to wait awhile for more content.

After its fall finale, the crime procedural will not air any original episodes until February. As noted by TVLine, this is the first time Castle will not air any new episodes in January since season 2.

And by the sound of it, the fall finale will have some type of cliffhanger involving Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett's (Stana Katic) relationship.

"Things are going to constantly evolve [for Rick and Kate], and by the time we get to the end of our fall finale, which will be Episode 8, there's another shift and change that's incredibly dynamic," co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter told TVLine recently.

The eighth season of Castle will be 22 episodes, meaning the remaining 14 will begin airing in February.

Castle fans are still reeling from Beckett's big decision in the latest episode. After finding new interest in the Bracken (Jack Coleman) case, Beckett told Castle that she wanted to split up, with her reason being that she wants to keep him safe as she investigates the case.

Longtime viewers were devastated and frustrated by this development, though Winter and fellow show runner Alexi Hawley have urged fans to trust them.

Castle airs Mondays at 10/9c on ABC.
