Survivor host Jeff Probst is a big fan of what current castaway Jeff Varner is bringing to the table.

Who Will Win 'Survivor: Cambodia'? Take Our Poll!

Varner has been one of the primary characters on Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance. From the footage we've seen through two episodes, he has been wheeling and dealing since they hit the beach, and he is currently in a prime position in the game. He has also delivered his fair share of witty confessionals, making him a compelling person for the viewing audience to root for.

Probst spoke with Entertainment Weekly about how long they've been wanting Varner back on the show ever since his time was cut short in The Australian Outback in 2001.

Jeff Probst Almost Quit 'Survivor'?!

"We've been trying to get Varner back for years. Every time a new casting theme came up he would be one of the first names on the list. We have always loved Varner. It just never worked out," Probst admitted. "I will say that the Varner who showed up was not the Varner I expected. I remembered Jeff as a young, cocky, charming villain who I would have been delighted seeing win the game. The guy who showed up for Second Chance is a much more mature, slightly annoyed, but still incredibly charming guy with just enough life experience and humility to be an equally satisfying winner. He's a great storyteller with a unique observation on the world."

Heading into next week, the tribes will be switched up, as we saw in the "Next Time on Survivor" segment. Will Varner thrive in a new tribe makeup or will his game come crumbling down?

Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
