They don't open up about their one-year-old daughter Esmeralda Amada often, but Eva Mendes has no problem dishing on her boyfriend Ryan Gosling's skills as a dad.

In an interview with Today, Mendes, 41, revealed that the interview she was at was only the third time she had been away from her daughter thus far, and when asked if she was with a babysitter, the actress and fashion designer revealed she was with her father instead.

"She's with papa and the family," Mendes said. "Thank god I have my entire family 10 minutes away."

She also revealed that she knew her daughter was in good hands with her father, because he was a good dad who made sure to hop in and help out with all the big stuff-including changing her dirty diapers.

"I mean, that's a given these days!" Mendes laughed.

She also talked about how much being a mom now has influenced her choices with her career, keeping her mainly out of the Hollywood spotlight so she can focus on being a good mom. However, her daughter also plays a role whenever new opportunities are presented to her-and every decision she makes is based on what she thinks is best for her little girl.

"If I'm even like, 'Oh, what should I wear? Or, should I do this project?' All I have to think about is my daughter and her face and I know the answer immediately," she said. "She's my moral compass in a way."
