Why is Ben Affleck's version of Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice so muscular?

Jesse Eisenberg Hints At 'Geopolitics' Theme In 'Batman v Superman'

Apparently, it was director Zack Snyder's vision for the character. A new YouTube video about DC's display at New York Comic-Con has been released, featuring the film's costume designer, Michael Wilkinson.

In the video, Wilkinson discusses the muscular new look for Batman in the 2016 blockbuster.

"It was really important for Zack [Snyder] that we created a whole new Batman," Wilkinson explained. "He said the most important thing for our Batman is that he comes across as a really hulking big guy. He's super pumped up. He's going to be even bigger than Superman in silhouette... He's like a tower of muscle."

Of course, Superman (Henry Cavill) is no slouch either, as we've seen from 2013's Man of Steel as well as the trailers for Batman v Superman. Even Gal Gadot has bulked up to properly portray Wonder Woman in the film.

Hype for Batman v Superman continues to grow stronger as its March release date approaches. The film also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth. The film will also feature cameos from Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher as Aquaman and Cyborg, respectively.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled for release in theaters on March 25, 2016.
