Britney Spears Quits 'X Factor' Before Being Fired By Simon Cowell? Report

Britney Spears has reportedly quit "The X Factor USA" after just one season. According to reports, it was because she learned that she would not have been asked to return for Season 3.

"Spears was not going to be asked back and so she will not return for season three," a source told The Hollywood Reporter.

Another source said Spears quit before Cowell fired her for being "boring."

"The reality is that toward the end of last season the main players knew they wanted to replace both Britney and LA Reid," a source told Mail Online. "Britney's judging was heavily criticized throughout the last season, with critics dubbing her 'boring'."

The source added that Spears also left because "her team knew it was unlikely she'd be asked back as a judge."

"The producers have already been making other plans for next season over the holidays," added the insider.

Another insider shared that Cowell felt she wasn't worth the $15milllion salary she was paid. Cowell's team and the show's producers expected her to be more upbeat during the show's tapings.

'They paid all that for her to say 'amazing' and offer half-claps,' a source told Us Weekly.

The only time Cowell gave his feedback as to whether he would bring Spears back or not was when he said he wasn't sure yet but that he was 'pro change.'

"I don't know yet, to be honest with you," Cowell told E! "I haven't had the conversation with her whether she'd want to, what other commitments she's got.'

Meanwhile, a source told TMZ that Spears left on her own accord to put out new music and go on a world tour. The source, whom the gossip site described as "unimpeachable," said Spears is presently in the studio working on her eighth album. The sources close to Spears said that Spears really like Simon but she is putting all of her attention on recording new music.

"Britney loves Simon, she likes Demi Lovato but her thing is music," the source told TMZ.

On Jan. 8, Spears tweeted, "I'm seeing so much chatter about new music out there. Glad to see you're all paying attention ;) Lot of work to do in 2013! LETS GO!" 

Spears shared that she is "working hard" and "excited" about a new album she is working on. When asked about her future with "The X Factor" in a Twitter Q&A she said she is "really focused on (my) music right now."
