Despite not being nominated for a Best Director Oscar earlier in the day, Ben Affleck won the Critics Choice Award for Best Director on Thursday night and his film "Argo" took home the coveted honor of Best Picture.

"I would like to thank the Academy...I'm kidding, I'm kidding this is the one that counts," Affleck joked when accepting his honor.

Other winners included Jennifer Lawrence, who won twice on Thursday night: Best Actor in a Comedy Movie  and Best Actress in an Action Movie for her role as Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games." Daniel Day-Lewis took home the honor for Best Actor and Anne Hathaway for Best Supporting Actress.

"Each and every day was filled with discovery and the joy of discovery...all of us were led by the fearless sherpas Tony Kushner and Steven Spielberg," Day-Lewis said upon receiving his award Thursday, thanking the film's screenwriter and director.

"Silver Linings Playbook," earned four awards throughout the night, including one for Best Comedy and another for Best Actor in a Comedy for Bradley Cooper.  The film received eight Oscar nominations and Cooper is nominated in the Best Actor category alongside Day-Lewis, Denzel Washington, Hugh Jackman and Joaquin Phoenix.

The Critics Choice Awards, conducted by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, is said to be an indicator of Academy Awards selections.
