NASCAR driver Danica Patrick filed for divorce from her husband Paul Hospenthal and also announced she will not be participating in the Indianapolis 500.

The divorce petition was filed on Jan. 3 in Arizona's Superior Court of Maricopa County and cited irreconcilable differences as the reason behind the split.

"My marriage is irretrievably broken and there is no reasonable prospect of reconciliation," she said, according to the court documents reported by The Los Angeles Times"My spouse and I did acquire community property during our marriage, and it will be divided as indicated on a Settlement Agreement which will be submitted to the court at a later date."

Hospenthal and Patrick were married for seven years and had a prenuptial agreement. He has yet to publicly respond to Patrick's filing.

Patrick confirmed in a Facebook post on Jan. 8 that she will not be competing in the Indianapolis 500 race. She said that she does not plan to race in this year's Indianapolis 500 because she wants to concentrate her first full-time season on NASCAR's highest level of competition.

"I am just going to do the Coke 600," Patrick said. "The team and I decided to focus on Cup. It's going to be plenty of work as it is. It's going to be important for me running for the championship full-time for the first time to really keep myself focused with the Cup car. But if I do the Indy 500 moving forward it will be with GoDaddy."

Last year Patrick also skipped participating in the Indianapolis race and competed in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on the same day, which is what it appears she plans on doing again this year, according to The Associated Press.
