Longmire star Lou Diamond Phillips has the fans to thank for the show's continued success.

Will Ally Walker Return To 'Longmire' For Potential Fifth Season?

Following Netflix's decision to renew Longmire for a fifth season, Phillips, who plays Henry Standing Bear in the Western drama, spoke on a press call (via OHSOGRAY) this week about why it's all because of the fans.

Asked about the show's older fan base, which may or many not have weighed on A&E's decision to cancel the show after season 3, Phillips suggested they have a big young fan base as well.

Netflix Has Renewed 'Longmire' For Season 5 & Fans Are Celebrating All Over Twitter

"You know what? I will simply say that it is inaccurate to assume that we appeal to only one demographic; and that our fans are incredibly loyal. They're incredibly vocal," he explained. "And this is the reason that we were not only picked up by Netflix, but that we have a Season 5. So any statement to the contrary is not only irresponsible, it's inaccurate. Obviously we could go into that a lot, and I actually do think that there's going to be some sort of discussion toward that comment this weekend. But I need to leave that to our producers and to Netflix to handle."

Talking about Netflix's renewal for a fifth season of Longmire, Phillips couldn't have been happier.

"Thrilled, thrilled, thrilled about it. I think, as I said before, the fourth season was our best yet," he said. "It certainly gave Henry Standing Bear so much more to do, and has, you know, set the table, if you will, for, you know, some very, very interesting plot lines for the next season. So we're all absolutely incredibly grateful that we get an opportunity to continue that."

A&E canceled Longmire after season 3, leading to fans petitioning to find it a new home. Netflix swooped in last November and renewed it for a 10-episode fourth season. Season 5 is also expected to have 10 episodes.
