Netflix Has Renewed 'Longmire' For Season 5 & Fans Are Celebrating All Over Twitter

Phillips, who plays Native American Henry Standing Bear in Longmire, recently spoke with SpoilerTV and other reporters about representing many communities in addition to Native American, including Latinos, Mexican Americans and Puerto Ricans.

"After Young Guns films, I was adopted into the Lakota nation on the Pine Ridge Porcupine and Rosebud reservations in South Dakota, and given a Lakota name," he explained. "And just last year, the Cheyenne people of the Lame Deer reservation in Montana adopted me, and also gave me a Cheyenne name. In both cases I went through a naming and blessing ceremony."

Phillips discussed how he tries to honor each community depending on the role:

"So, much like when I represent the Latino community, be it Mexican-American or Puerto Rican or, in the case of The 33, Chileans, I try to be specific," he said. "I try to be respectful and accurate, because I know I'm representing a community of people who have pride and dignity."

He admitted that he has received acceptance from these communities, suggesting he's doing a fine job thus far in his career.

"Fortunately I think the acceptance that I've received from any number of these communities is affirmation that I'm approaching it in the right way," he said.

Phillips also spoke on Netflix's renewal of Longmire for season 5, revealing he is "thrilled, thrilled, thrilled about it" and commended the show's "incredibly loyal" fan base.

Longmire season 5 has not yet begun production.
