Danica McKellar, known for playing Winnie Cooper in the 1980s-'90s hit "The Wonder Years," will tackle monsters in Syfy's new original movie "Tasmanian Devils."

McKellar, 38, stars alongside Olympic athlete and "Dancing With the Stars" alum Apolo Ohno and Kenneth Mitchell from "Jericho."

The film is the directorial debut of Zach Lipovsky, who was in charge of special effects for a Steven Spielberg TV show "On The Lot." The film also stars actors who have appeared in FOX's "24" and the film "Battlestar Galactica," to name a few.

In the gory preview trailer for "Tasmanian Devils," McKellar and her crew are on a helicopter headed to Devil's Peak. The clip gives a sneak peek at what happens when the group begins to encounter deadly creatures from an underground enclave known as "Tasmanian Devils."

"Aboriginal ancestors would call upon this devil to defend the island against their enemies," said Danica's character, who is seen toting a gun and taking on a monster with a flamethrower in some of the video's scenes.

Hollywood Soapbox spoke with Ohno about his acting debut and the Olympic champion admitted he had "butterflies" when he arrived on set.

"I have butterflies right now just talking about it," Ohno told Hollywood Soapbox. "It was something that was so outside of my space."

Ohno said he gave it his absolute best for his first acting job despite being his "own worst critic."

"I think we're always our own worst critic. So we try to give our absolute no matter what, no matter how big or small the role is and no matter you know, what type of a character we're playing," he said. "So whether I'm dying slowly or I'm smiling and happy as can be, you know, you try to - you just try to be your best, so absolutely. If I - I think if I wasn't nervous at all, there would have been an issue."

"Tasmanian Devils" airs on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 9 p.m. ET on Syfy.

The film is part of McKellar's recent return to television. After "The Wonder Years" series ended in 1993 she resumed her acting career and appeared in several guest small screen roles including "Big Bang Theory" and "How I Met Your Mother."
