Things just seem to be going from bad to worse for the British royal family, or at least in the headlines. There's a new scathing op-ed that suggests Prince William and Kate Middleton are well behind the times as they don't understand the idea behind social media and that they refuse to cooperate when it comes to their "awful" media strategy.

Kate Middleton Is Being Criticized For Shielding Her Children

Writing in the Daily Beast on Wednesday, Tom Sykes points out that even though the Duke and Duchess are part of the social media generation, they apparently "don't get" the idea behind Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Sykes goes on to slam The Cambridges' use of social media as "clunky" and the Palace-run Kensington Royal Twitter account has a tone that "has been utterly bewildering and completely non-uniform. It's hard to avoid the impression that the social media account is being updated by an unpaid intern."

Kate Middleton Expecting Her Third Child Already?

And while some might argue that Prince William and Kate are entitled to their privacy and be photographed by everyone who seems them on in public, Sykes points out the Royals have something of a different status than other celebrities.

"One could make a convincing argument that as taxpayers funding the royal lifestyle, we plebs are very much entitled to [take pics of them in public]," he writes. "Will and Kate may not like it, but pictures of the young royals will be taken whenever they are in a public or semi-public place."

Sykes purposed solution to the Royal family social media mess? Learning a thing or two from the Beckhems, who don't act as if social media is "the work of the devil."
