Maybe she partied just a little too hard.

Barbara Walters, veteran ABC news journalist caused quite a scare Sunday night when she took a hard tumble during the inauguration festivities, resulting in her being hospitalized.

The fall occurred as “The View” cohost, descended a staircase in the home of a British ambassador, a spokesperson for ABC said.

Walters, 83, was admitted to a Washington D.C. area hospital to be treated for a cut on her forehead and as a general safety precaution.

Jeffrey Schneider, Senior Vice President of ABC, informed the media that there was not a cause for concern saying: Walters was rushed to the hospital, "out of an abundance of caution," for observation on Sunday.

"Barbara is alert (and telling everyone what to do), which we all take as a very positive sign," Schneider said in a written statement.

Like many other journalists, Walters was summoned to Washington D.C. to provide coverage for President Obama’s second inauguration. Due to her injury, Walters will not be contributing to the inauguration coverage according to TV Newser.

In recent years, rumors circulated that after over fifty years in the news biz, Walters would soon be heading into retirement. In December 2011, TMZ reported that Walters was overheard saying she wanted to interview President Obama just one more time before she retired in 2012 prompting ABC SVP to shoot down rumors.

"Barbara has joked that she is retiring every year since the Clinton Administration. Anyone who just did a day trip to Syria, 90-minute prime time special and an interview with the President and First Lady hardly sounds like someone retiring from anything." Schneider told TMZ.

Along with her ground breaking interviews, Walters is known for her “10 Most Fascinating People”specials.

Barbara Walters ranked former CIA director and Gen. David Petraeus No. 1 on her list of the "10 Most Fascinating People" of 2012, an ABC special that aired Wednesday.

The list included British boy band One Direction, director and "Argo" actor Ben Affleck, Hilary Clinton, Honey Boo Boo and others. However, the extramarital affair that surfaced involving Petraeus and his biographer Paula Broadwell, and the scandal that developed as a result of it, rocked the nation and garnered enough attention that Walters could not resist making the central figure part of her list.
