The French capital and neighboring Saint-Denis fell prey to a coordinated attack on Friday night, one that has left at least 128 people dead, according to CNN. Explosions and gunfire from six separate attacks rocked the city as soccer fans cheered on France at the Stade de France and concert goers packed the Bataclan concert hall around 9:30 p.m. French time.

Three explosions reportedly took place outside the Stade de France while armed gunman used AK-47s to attack two restaurants and the Bataclan, according to The Guardian.

The Bataclan also became ground zero for a hostage situation, which was resolved when the police lay siege to the venue. The death toll rose significantly when it was revealed that over 110 people lost their lives inside the concert hall, according to CNN.

French President François Hollande declared a state of emergency and closed the country's boarders.

"To all those who have seen these awful things, I want to say we are going to lead a war which will be pitiless," Hollande said outside the Bataclan, according to The Guardian. "Because when terrorists are capable of committing such atrocities they must be certain that they are facing a determined France, a united France, a France that is together and does not let itself be moved, even if today we express infinite sorrow."
