Is Cate Blanchett the Jessica Lange replacement we've been looking for on FX's American Horror Story?

Evan Peters Wants His Season 6 'American Horror Story' Character To Be 'Handicapped'

Blanchett is actually open to making an appearance on American Horror Story, despite having a thriving career in movies. She currently stars alongside Rooney Mara and Sarah Paulson in the new critically acclaimed film Carol, and the award-winning actress wants to work with Paulson again.

The only thing standing in the way of Blanchett making an appearance on the horror anthology series is a Paulson invitation!

5 Possible Concepts For Season 6 Of 'American Horror Story'

"You know, [Sarah] hasn't asked!" Blanchett told Vulture, of an American Horror Story cameo. "[But] yeah, if she asked me."

Blanchett admitted that she is "desperate" to work with Paulson again, adding, "She's brilliant. I've long admired her onstage and onscreen, and it was such a pleasure to work with her. In every gesture and every look, she just speaks volumes."

While Blanchett probably wouldn't do a full season of American Horror Story in a leading role like Lange (who exited the series after Freak Show), having such a commanding presence as her would almost surely be exciting.

The series has attracted many movie and TV stars over the years, including Lange, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Connie Britton, Frances Conroy, Michael Chiklis, Dylan McDermott, Zachary Quinto, James Cromwell, Joseph Fiennes, Gabourey Sidibe and Emma Roberts. Even character actors like Denis O'Hare and Lily Rabe have thrived on the series.

American Horror Story: Hotel airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
