Emily Wickersham first appeared on NCIS as Eleanor "Ellie" Bishop in November 2013 when she debuted in the ninth episode of Season 11 as an analyst of the NSA.

Could Bishop Go Undercover With Brody In 'NCIS' & 'NCIS: New Orleans' Crossover?

Since Wickersham's first appearance, Bishop has joined the NCIS team as a probationary agent since Gibbs (Mark Harmon) offered her the position.

Previously other female agents have been on the NCIS team alongside Gibbs, Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Timothy McGee (Sean Murray). When the series first began in 2003, Sasha Alexander portrayed Special Agent Caitlin "Kate" Todd. Alexander's character was eventually killed off and replaced by Ziva David (Cote de Pablo). De Pablo's desire to leave the series led to the casting of Wickersham as Bishop.

What Is 'The Abby Effect' That 'NCIS' Star Pauley Perrette Is Involved With?

Back in February, Pauley Perrette, the portrayer of Abby Sciuto, actually defended Wickersham on Twitter since many fans are still bitter about de Pablo's departure.

It seems like the writers of NCIS have tried to make Wickersham's character more relatable by shedding light currently on her marital problems with her NSA Attorney husband, Jake Malloy (Jamie Bamber). In the episode that aired this Tuesday, Bishop learned her husband has been having an affair with a fellow NSA employee, which absolutely shattered Bishop and led to her making the decision to head home to Oklahoma.

This gave many bitter fans of the series hope that Wickersham's character would be gone for good. An array of responses flooded Twitter in regard to Bishop's decision to head home, from absolute disdain that the writers would even give Bishop any storylines outside of her NCIS job to devastation that she might leave. But the negative comments seem to outweigh the positive ones, which is unfortunate for Wickersham, who does a great job in portraying Bishop. It was heartbreaking to see her on screen Tuesday night in reacting to her screen husband's cheating.

One fan of the series claims to be "so genuinely uninterested in seeing anymore of Bishop's personal drama."

Another fan voiced that they wouldn't mind if Bishop remains in Oklahoma since she hasn't "brought much to the mix."

Another fan doesn't appear to be sold that Bishop is "gone for good" and that individual would be right.

Bishop may indeed be returning to Oklahoma, but she will be back. She actually will appear in the episode airing this upcoming Tuesday (Nov. 24), a Thanksgiving-themed installment called "Blood Brothers." Viewers will see Bishop in Oklahoma and Gibbs will be heading there too, as he cares about her.

So viewers that are concerned that Bishop is gone for good can relax. Plus, Wickersham has been busy lately filming for the crossover with NCIS: New Orleans. That crossover will air after the holidays in 2016.

As much as many viewers still aren't willing to embrace Wickersham's character, it seems like those behind NCIS have no problem with keeping her around. Furthermore, there are fans of the series that do appreciate Wickersham's character.

One fan claimed that the lineup of Gibbs, DiNozzo, McGee and Bishop is "the best [NCIS] team so far."

Another fan of the series admitted that Bishop is "starting to grow on me," which means the writers and Wickersham are definitely on the right path of winning everyone over eventually.

NCIS airs on Tuesdays on CBS at 8 p.m. ET.
