Season 4 of Beauty and the Beast is set to be its last: The CW has decided to pull the plug on the show after this chapter.

Production for season 4 is almost through, according to a Variety report, and the show should be back on air in 2016. The report chalks up the cancellation to the show's mediocre ratings, citing Nielsen's numbers for season 3: it averaged 0.23 in the demo and nearly 900,000 same day viewers. Beauty and the Beast, which is a remake of the 1987 series, was always on edge with the passing of every season, as its ratings were always subpar. But the show has its own devoted league of fans.

Deadline also added that the CW boss Mark Pedowitz had a special spot for the show, as it was one of his first projects after he took over the network in 2011.

The show has also been a major hit for fans following the relationship between Catherine (Kristin Kreuk) and Vincent (Jay Ryan). Let's hope the last chapter gives them an eternally happy ending.

Little else is known about the plot of season 4 of Beauty and the Beast and how the writers plan on concluding the story.

The finale of season 3, titled 'Destined,' aired on Sept. 10 on The CW.
