A shooting situation is still active near a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood location, which has already seen at least three police officers injured and six people have been taken to hospitals for injuries.

The situation is still ongoing according to reports, with police officers still encountering gunfire in the area, more and two and a half hours after a shooter was first reported in the area, and a shopping area near the clinic has been put on lockdown as the situation continues to unfold.

The shooting appeared to have started in connection to the Planned Parenthood facility, thought there are very few details available at this time about what is going on.

"We don't have the suspect yet and we do consider this still an active situation," Lt. Catherine Buckley told reporters. "There could be hostages and there could be an additional shooter at large. There are a lot of possibilities with this scenario. As I said, it is very active and we are working our way through it."

Buckley also could not confirm if the Planned Parenthood facility was the target of the shooting, but the original address that was reported for the service call did match up to the one for the clinic, which is on the busy Centennial Boulevard strip.

"We're not sure what the connection is to PLanned Parenthood, but that was the original address we received for the call for service," she said. Planned Parenthood as an organization was recently the subject of much debate in Congress, with arguments of whether or not it should be defunded nearly stalling a budget vote and threatening a government shutdown.

UPDATE 5:13 P.M.: A fourth officer was injured as well, in addition to five civilians. The man, who was wearing hunting gear and carrying an assault rifle has reportedly barricaded himself in the Planned Parenthood clinic, and cops were engaged in a shootout with the suspect.

UPDATE 5:24 P.M.: The CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains has issued a statement about the shooting.

"We don't yet know the full circumstances and motives behind this criminal action, and we don't yet know if Planned Parenthood was in fact the target of this attack," Vicki Cowart said in a written statement. "We share the concerns of many Americans that extremists are creating a poisonous environment that feeds domestic terrorism in this country. We will never back away from providing care in a safe, supportive environment that millions of people rely on and trust."

UPDATE: 7:05 P.M: NBC News and the Associated Press are both reporting that the shooter has given himself up after a standoff with police with hostages. In total, 11 people (5 of them police officers) have been hospitalized but authorities are reporting no fatalities
