Actor Kevin Bacon lives in New York and revealed in recent interviews that he takes the subway and has methods he uses to help him avoid being spotted as a celebrity.

"It's the fastest way to get around the city," Bacon told People magazine. "When I'm on the train, I play solitaire, Angry Birds and backgammon on my phone."

While Bacon could adapt to the daily commute on the NYC subway, hiding his celebrity status was an entirely different story altogether. He created a disguise to throw off fans but in another interview, he discussed how shocked he felt when he was treated like everyone else.

"Fame is very much a double-edged sword," Bacon said, according to MSN News. "I had a prosthetic disguise made, because I wanted to see what it would be like not to be recognized. I didn't like it very much - no one was nice to me. People didn't bother me, but they also looked right through me."

The actor is not the only one who prefers to take public transportation. Katharine McPhee, who currently stars in the TV hit Smash, and New Yorker Katie Holmes have both been seen riding the New York City subway. Hugh Jackman as well as pop icon Madonna have been spotted on numerous occasions traveling on the subway, the former even with her daughter Lourdes.

Bacon, 54, stars in the new drama series The Following. As former FBI agent Ryan Hardy, Bacon's character has been long out of the public eye since helping to put serial killer Joe Carroll, (James Purefoy) behind bars. When Carroll escaped from death row, Hardy returned as a consultant but soon found himself back at the scene of the crime. The Following premiered on FOX on Jan. 21.
