Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) father intended to reunite with his sun following Peter's mother's death, but his grand plan didn't work out quite as he wished. When Vol. 2 drops, however, the leader of the Guardians will finally have the chance to unravel the mystery behind his mother's "angel."

According to The Wrap, The Hateful Eight's Russell is currently No. 1 in line for the part. Unfortunately, neither Marvel nor Russell's reps have confirmed the rumor.

When it comes to Quill's pops, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will surprise comic book readers when it veers away from the original source material.

"It's different than what's in the comic books," writer/director James Gunn teased, according to Uproxx. "Peter Quill's father is somebody different in the comics."

It is unknown if Russell's potential character will still be a member of the Spartoi Empire, or if he will be from a different race entirely.
