Spain vs Uruguay takes place on Wednesday in an international friendly that should attract a lot of attention. The world and European champions will face off against one of the most difficult sides to play in South America in what should be an enthralling encounter. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET and can be watched online through live stream by clicking here.

Spain’s playmaker Xavi will be missing for this friendly, which takes place at the Khalifa International Stadium. Xavi picked up a hamstring injury recently and will not be ready to take part.

In other team news Real Madrid duo Xabi Alonso (groin) and Iker Casillas (hand) will also be missing in today’s game.

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has also left Javi Martinez, Roberto Soldado and Fernando Torres out of the match squad today.

Meanwhile on the Uruguay side of things, boss Oscar Tabarez will have to make do without midfielder Gaston Ramirez, who suffered a leg injury playing for English Premier League side Southampton during the weekend.

However, the attacking trio of Luis Suarez, Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani may start together for the first time since the 3-0 qualifying defeat to Argentina last October. If those three can start they should provide quite a test for the Spain defense.

Coming into this game Spain will be huge favorites though; they are currently on a 17 match unbeaten run in which they have won 13 and drawn 4. They have not been beaten since November 2011, and most fans would not expect them to slip up today.

Uruguay on the other hand are struggling with form at the moment, and have won just one of their last six games. They have won one, drawn two, and lost three recently. However, they have a reputation of being able to raise their game when it matters, and they will surely not make things easy for Spain today.

One landmark being reached in today’s match should be Carles Puyol reaching his 100th cap for Spain. if he makes an appearance he will join an elite set of players to reach the 100 appearances mark for Spain.
