After two seasons, Christina Applegate has decided to relinquish her acting duties on the NBC comedy, Up All Night. The show has been in limbo for some time, undergoing plenty of restructuring changes, but the promises for a better show were not enough to keep Applegate on the cast roster.

The Lorne Michael- produced sitcom was set to make a comeback on the network this month after going on hiatus in October 2012 to implement a new format.

Applegate’s sudden departure comes at a bad time as the show was set to film five new episodes in front of a live studio audience and going from a one camera to a multi-camera project.

“It’s been a great experience working on Up All Night, but the show has taken a different creative direction and I decided it was best for me to move on to other endeavors,” Applegate said. “Working with Lorne Michaels has been a dream come true and I am grateful he brought me into his TV family. I will miss the cast, producers and crew, and wish them the best always.”

The elimination of Applegate’s character will leave a huge void within the series. On the show, Applegate just became a new mom, so there are questions on how they would write her out of the show. According to Deadline TV, there have whispers that NBC is looking to fill that void with ‘Friends’ alum, Lisa Kudrow.

Ahead of Applegate’s departure was Emily Spivey who was the creator and executive produce of the show. Up All Night also went through several plot changes expanding Maya Rudolph’s character following the success of the Bridesmaids film.

Applegate won’t be gone from the spotlight for too long, as she is confirmed to reprise her role in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues which is expected to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2013.
