What better way to ring in the new year than with your favorite dynamic duo in Sherlock: The Abominable Bride?

The new Sherlock holiday special will air tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT on PBS. But this special won't have much continuity with the actual series. In The Abominable Bride, we will see Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Watson (Martin Freeman) reimagined in 1890s London, in tribute to Arthur Conan Doyle's original Sherlock Holmes stories.

Other characters that show up in the special include Mary Morstan (Amanda Abbington), Inspector Lestrade (Rupert Graves) and Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs).

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride will likely tide fans over as they wait for season 4, in addition to allowing us to see Cumberbatch and Freeman in the context of the original Sherlock stories for the first time.

This special also make history in that it is airing in the U.S. and the U.K. on the same day. Usually, the U.K. gets to see a Sherlock season in its entirety before the U.S. gets the rights to it.
