Cox even took to her Twitter page to write about it!

Smith's campaign comes as America continues to see a huge trans movement. Cox's involvement in Orange Is the New Black, playing the very sympathetic yet flawed Sophia Burset has helped lead the movement, along with Jeffrey Tambor's performance as Maura Pfefferman in Amazon's Transparent. Tambor won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his sensitive performance as a trans woman coming out in her '70s.

We've also seen the arrival of Caitlyn Jenner, who continues to make headlines.

Cox received significant screen time in the third season of Orange Is the New Black, as Sophia's son started hanging out with another prisoner, Gloria's (Selenis Leyva), son. The storyline evolved into conflict between the two families and resulted in Sophia being sent to the SHU after a spout of violence.

Orange Is the New Black is expected to return for season 4 this summer on Netflix, though a specific release date has yet to be announced.
