  • The People's Choice Awards has been held annually since 1975, recognizing the people and the work of popular culture, voted on by the general public.

The 42nd People's Choice Awards, honoring the best in popular culture for 2015, was held January 6, 2016, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, and was broadcast live on CBS. The ceremony was hosted by Jane Lynch. Nominations were announced on November 3, 2015.

With great performances by Shawn Mendes "Stitches", Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello "I Know What You Did Last Summer", and Jason Derulo "Get Ugly", "Want to Want Me".

"Thor" star Chris Hemsworth won the award and thanked his fans for making his job a reality: "It's a pretty special thing, being able to go to work each day and not feel like work and instead feel like a childhood dream," he said.
  • Black and Hudson announced the winner for Favorite Comedic Movie Actress -- Melissa McCarthy, star of CBS' "Mike and Molly" and "Spy," won for the second year in a row. McCarthy also won Favorite Comedic TV actress for "Mike and Molly."

McCarthy pointed out that DeGeneres has raised over $50 million for "countless charities" ranging from causes like helping victims of domestic violence to stopping global warming to treating breast cancer patients.

  • The Favorite Comedic TV Actor award goes to Jim Parsons
  • Leslie Mann and Alison Brie practiced fake crying on stage as they announced Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress (Mann was not successful). Dakota Johnson, star of "Fifty Shades of Grey," cracked, "Leslie broke my dress. Well, it's not like there's anyone here who hasn't seen my boobs."
  • Priyanka Chopra of "Quantico" who won Favorite New Actress in a TV Series.
  • John Stamos of "Grandfathered" who won Favorite New Actor in a TV Series

"My fiancee couldn't be here tonight but she says hello, wishes she could," he said. "I love you babe, thank you for having my back and supporting me. You inspire me every day. And to the people: I implore you, pursue your passions, chase your dreams."
