It's coming off of amazing high following an epic 50th anniversary celebration, but some small chances could still remain that would see NBC's only soap opera Days of Our Lives on the chopping block.

The show's renewal status is still not entirely clear, with a slight chance it could be canceled, though fans shouldn't be worried yet because NBC seems very intent on bringing it back.

In an interview with TV Line, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt seemed to hint that the show should be renewed, because the network is very happy with how the show has performed in recent months, though he did say the final decision wouldn't happen until February.

"We're happy with where Days was this year," he said. "We have a negotiating period that starts in February. Stay tuned."

The show is currently slated where if it was to be cancelled, episodes would stop airing in September, with production finishing up as early as March of this year, but NBC's entertainment president Jennifer Salke revealed she sees no real reason why the show would face such a shocking fate.

"We've been really happy with the show," she said. "I've been over there seeing Ken [Cordray, executive producer] and the team and the new writers. They're an incredible group and we love the show. They got a [ratings] bump in the fall for their 50th anniversary. There's a creative resurgence and exciting storytelling going on right now."

"I'm optimistic," she added. "We need to negotiate with Sony [Pictures Television], but I'm optimistic. We would like the show back."

It's also worth noting that in addition to the ratings bump during the 50th anniversary, Days also experienced a bump in the first week of the new year, which saw the deaths of two big characters in Daniel Jonas (Shawn Christian) and Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo).

Days of Our Lives airs Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. on NBC.
