Paris Fashion Week began Tuesday and goes until March 6, and designers scheduled to showcase their collections include Balenciaga, Carven, Christian Dior, Chloe, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu and Elie Saab.

Fashion editors, models, buyers, stylists and journalists traveled to one of the fashion capitals of the world for nine days to view the latest in haute couture, men's fashion, and ready-to-wear fall and winter looks. The lineup for the week is an intense one, with some 99 "on-calendar" shows and others privately held.

"There are 12 shows a day. Twenty-two different nationalities this season. With new top designers at work," Didier Grumbach, president of the French Fashion Federation, said. "It's an impressive mix, an energy that sets Paris apart from what's going on elsewhere."

During Milan Fashion Week collections from Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana and others showcased lots of dark palettes, masculine styles and bold accessories for the 2013-14 autumn/winter seasons. Pants stayed mostly straight leg and designers played with the idea of different leather pieces - pencil skirts, minis, jackets, trenches, pants and boots.
